Open to all, it is particularly suited to those wanting to focus on these key areas as well as those with conditions such as osteoporosis or other common orthopaedic conditions. Whether you are new to Pilates or more experienced in your practice this class will encourage you to challenge your body in new ways.

What is Pilates Mat Work
Joseph Pilates created his series of 34 mat exercises, known as Contrology, as a method that people could do without the need for gym equipment or apparatus. His Contrology method was designed to “restore physical fitness”. The method “develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind, and elevates the spirit” (Joseph Pilates).
The exercises that are performed, and the order in which we learn and perform them, have specific intention to help you continually evolve and progress your practice. Working the body as a whole, rather than a sum of individual parts. Encouraging you to move well, with balance, control and precision.
The Be:Poised Pilates Approach
Group Pilates Mat Classes are a wonderfully accessible way for people to experience the benefits of the Pilates method. Some of our clients attend mat classes as their sole Pilates practice, and others will combine both mat and apparatus classes for the best of both worlds. However you choose to practice you will be assured of a warm welcome into our classes.
Our traditional mat classes work within the framework of Joseph Pilates’s Contrology mat work. We may also draw from the wonderful contributions of the Pilates Elders who continued Joseph Pilates’s method after his death and some of the enhancements they made to help clients access the tricker elements of the mat work. Our Strong Foundations class takes a more contemporary approach, encouraging you to challenge your body in different ways to build strong foundations for active living.
Our teaching approach is centred around treating every person as an individual. Even in a group class setting you will benefit from detailed observation and guidance from your teacher; helping you find the work needed in YOUR body to achieve the benefits of the method.
Our mat studio is homely and welcoming; a space of calm amongst a busy lifestyle. Our classes are taught in an encouraging and supportive environment. We want you to come out of our classes feeling invigorated in mind as well as body!
